Makey Makey Project

For CSAI class, we had to create a scratch project and control it using the Makey Makey. If you don’t know what a Makey Makey is, it’s pretty much just a substitute for a keyboard. It looks like this:

Plug And Play Coding Apps For Kids - Makey Shop – Joylabz Official Makey Makey Store
Keyboard

Makey Makey – Joylabz Official Makey Makey Store

Full set (Including keyboard)

You can also tell that there are colorful wires in the picture. Those are called alligator clips, as the metal end open up and close like an alligator. There is a larger red wire to connect the computer with the Makey Makey.

There are multiple things that can conduct electricity (For example, pencil lead, metal, and even a potato!), but most importantly, you can too! If you put your finger on something, it will conduct electricity. So if you put your finger on the up arrow on the makey makey, it will activate the up arrow on your computer. So, our project was an interactive story. We had to create a scratch project, and tell a story. We had to split it into different scenes. For example, the first scene would play if you press the up arrow, so you’d have to use the “When up arrow pressed” block as an event, and then code in your scene. And obviously, you’d have to do the same with all the other triggers (Besides click, because it’s quite a difficult task to do click, even though it’s possible). But that’s not all, because we had to draw a picture to represent our stories. And you can hook up some alligator clips to the pencil lead on the picture, and when the alligator clip is pressed by you, a conductor of electricity, it will activate the trigger it’s connected to.

**I learned about the makey makey while doing this project**

My story was about a treasure hunt, and you have to choose where you would go to try and find the treasures.

Here is my scratch project:

About me!

Do you want to see a project that I could have made much simpler than it was?

Do you want to see a project that took me hours to make but it could’ve taken me HALF of an hour?

YOU are in the perfect place.

In CSAI, we had to make an About Me Collage, where we click objects to explain about….well, ourselves! I used (I’m not going to say, because I have my tricks up my sleeve…) to make this happen. I made a short (Actually, quite long for a short little video) animation using Scratch. You see……..

The way I could have simplified this is by making multiple backdrops that would switch every few seconds, instead of making sprites that are so big they cover up the whole screen. These sprites have to hide every few seconds then broadcast a message that makes the next sprite show. That is a very hard process when you have 8 sprites that have to be coded to continuously do that….take it from me. So, this could have been much simpler if that was the process I chose. Then I would also have some extra time and I could add more, but due to the long, long process I decided to do, I had to use all of my time to create the base of the animation. Also, there are words at the top that also had to be queued, so that took a lot of time too.

Overall, it wasn’t THAT hard, but if I had taken the easier and more sophisticated route, the project would’ve been better.

Here it is:

Instructions:

Click on the pikachu screen for a PIKA!! Click the flag twice! Learn about me.
Order:
My age
My favorite animal
My favorite colors
My favorite games
My favorite desserts
My favorite movie and book.
My favorite youtubers.
Fireworks.
Thank you!

The Thank You is the end, it goes on forever, there is nothing after that.

Here are the games!

If you want to see the games that I’ve been going on and on about in previous posts, you’re in the right post, here they are!

RPG:

Note: Please no hate comments, it’s not finished yet.

Edit: I removed Pong from the post, It’s not really that I didn’t want to share it, but I think some of the pictures I used had watermarks on them.

Animate Your name project

I made an “Animate your name project” on Scratch. I really tried my best to stretch this project, not a 24 hour work project, but just simple coding that makes it further complicated.

As you may know (If you read my first blog), I’ve been coding almost half my life on scratch. So this was really quite easy. There was a small bit where I needed a little help from my dad to make the coin drop (Something with the coin, I forgot), but overall this wasn’t a challenge. I’m not too proud of this overall, I’m more proud of my recent games (Still working on it). I’m quite proud of them.

Instructions (Please listen up, it’s complicated):

Click the E to watch the E turn.

Click the M to watch the M jump.

Click the A to watch both of the A’s switch positions with each other.

Click the N to watch it quickly switch to a mirror effect and back.

Click Play. For a slightly impressive touch, it will ask you for a password. The password is “Emaan”.

Use 1 and 2 to move left (1) and right (2). I didn’t use the arrows because the arrows don’t work when I use scratch, so I couldn’t test and if I couldn’t test, I couldn’t publish it. The aim is to collect the coins and earn points.

If you really want to, click here to try the project.

About Myself

Hello, Everyone reading this! My name is Emaan!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have an obsession with flamingos and video games. I’m almost 11 years old and I started fifth grade about 3 weeks ago.
My favorite games are Minecraft (I’ve been playing for 7 years), Stardew Valley, Disney Infinity, Rocket league, ect..
My school is questacademy, a school in Illinois. I was there in preschool, home schooled in pre-k and then moved to California for Kindergarten. I moved back to Illinois for 1st grade and this is where I am now. It’s been a whole 4 years…….
Additional Facts:
I’ve been coding on scratch for almost 4 or 5 years. I made small little projects and now expanding on the length of projects I do. I started learning how to bake as well. I’m starting off simple.
